The Canadian Foreign Ministry urged dual-national Canadians living in Russia today, Thursday, to leave the country as soon as they can.
The United States yesterday recommended its dual nationals to leave the country at a time when Russia calls up 300,000 soldiers to engage in the seven-month conflict with Ukraine, and Ottawa’s admonition is identical to that of the United States.
According to a press release from the Canadian foreign ministry, “Russia does not recognise dual citizenship and that dual individuals may be subject to certain legal duties, including military service.” If double nationals try to avoid military service, they “may be jailed, imprisoned or fined heavily,” he continued.
In response to the war, which started on February 24, the federal government has recommended Canadians since March 5 to not only stay away from Russia but also to exit the nation. .
