Azerbaijan refuses to move forward with peace talks with Armenia in the event of Macron

Azerbaijan announced on Friday that it had canceled a peace talks session that was scheduled to take place in Brussels with Armenia because Yerevan insists on the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron in it.
Peace talks have started several months ago between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nicole Pashinian, who were supposed to meet on December 7 in Brussels.

On Friday, Alia said during an international conference in Baku that Pashinian “agreed to this meeting, provided that French President Macron is present. ”
Moscow, which the Caucasus considers a region of influence, does not consider it with contentment with European mediation between Baku and Weirvan, and it is suspected that the West intends to compete in this region while it is busy invading Ukraine.

When asked Friday by journalists about Aliyev’s cancellation of the scheduled meeting in Brussels, the Kremlin confirmed Russia’s readiness to host the talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Armenia, Russia’s ally and Azerbaijan, backed by Turkey, has faced two wars during the past three decades to control Nagurani Qara Bagh.
In 2020, the war resulted in the killing of more than 6,500 soldiers and ended with a ceasefire sponsored by Russia.

Armenia relinquished lands that it took control of decades ago and Moscow has deployed about two thousand Russian soldiers to monitor this fragile truce.
In September, at least 286 people were killed in clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, in the worst confrontations between the two neighboring countries in the Caucasus since the 2020 war..
