Italy: We will support efforts to stop the Russian military operation against Ukraine

Today, Friday, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said that the authorities of his country, along with its main partners, have supported all the efforts made. To stop the Russian military operation on Ukraine.

“We will continue to contribute when conditions allow in the search for a negotiated solution,” the Italian Foreign Minister added – in his address to the annual (Ambrosetti) Forum in the town of Chernobbio on the shores of Lake Como (northern Italy) -, according to the Italian (AKI) news agency.

He noted his country’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, democracy and independence to the fullest extent, and that he affirmed this to Ukrainians last week, during his visit to Kyiv, recalling the expressions of solidarity of Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

In this context, the Italian Foreign Minister described today the agreement of the finance ministers of the member states of the Group of Seven major industrialized countries to set a price ceiling for Russian oil transported by sea, as a “critical step forward.”

And “Di Maio” – in a tweet on the (Twitter) social networking platform – said that the same determination must now be shown in the European Union to set a ceiling for the price of natural gas, adding, “Stop speculation, families and companies must be supported.”

The Group of Seven major industrial countries had announced – in a statement, following a virtual meeting, today, of the group’s finance ministers; To discuss the repercussions of the Russian attack on Ukraine on the global economy – it seeks to form a “broad international coalition” to set a ceiling on the prices of Russian oil and petroleum products of Russian origin transported by sea.

The statement noted that designing a price ceiling would reduce Russian revenue and Russia’s ability to finance its offensive, while limiting the impact of the Russian war on global energy prices, particularly for low- and middle-income countries.
