An Iranian judiciary spokesman Masoud Steachi said today, Tuesday, at a television press conference that “40 foreign citizens have been arrested so far because of their involvement in the protests”, without revealing their nationalities.

The protests were launched in Iran last September, after the death of the young woman, Muhsa Amini, due to torture by elements of what is known as the “ethics police” after her arrest under the pretext of “inappropriate dress.


In another matter, the Iranian authorities closed the economic newspaper “Jihan Sanat” after accusing the security forces against the background of the protests in the country more than two months ago, following the death of Amini, according to a news website affiliated with the judiciary, on Tuesday.

The “Mizan Online” website, quoting a statement issued by the Ministry of Culture, stated that “the daily Jihan Sanat newspaper (the world of industry) was closed, on Monday, due to its violation of the decisions of the Supreme National Security Council,” according to AFP.
The agency did not clarify the content of the decisions, but indicated that the closure is linked to “an article published by the newspaper, on Saturday, and charged with the police and security forces.


Dozens, most of them demonstrators, have also been killed, including security forces since the start of the protests on September 16, and thousands of them arrested journalists during the demonstrations that the authorities refer to “riots. ”
Hama Mihan newspaper reminded, on Tuesday, that the economic newspaper, which was established in 2004, was previously closed in 2020 to question the official figures of the Corona virus.

The reformist newspaper “Sazandji” reported at the end of October that “more than twenty journalists are still in detention”, while the authorities summoned a number of other journalists..
