According to The Times, the only surviving member of the British band Monkees has chosen to sue the FBI over a confidential dossier thought to be kept by the US agency and belonging to his former bandmates.
Mickey Dollins, 77, the main guy of the popular British American band in the 1960s, has launched a case through his lawyer, Mark Zedd, a freedom of information specialist who stated that it would be entertaining.
Zedd stated that he encountered Dolens through common acquaintances and advised to him that he check to see whether the FBI has a file on him or his former bandmates. Soon later, Zedd discovered that such a file already existed, and that a redacted seven-page extract had been leaked in 2011.
The FBI dossier on the agency’s website wrongly refers to the Monkeys, and the records offer no insight into why the band was interested in federal investigators, other than during the Vietnam War, when the government was sensitive to criticism from big Hollywood actors and pop singers.

Almost an entire page is blacked out due to policy in the Vietnam War, but the dossier portrays the Monkees as a very popular band of four young guys dressed in Beatnik and aimed mostly towards the teen market.
According to the message, subliminal messages were captured on screen during the Monkees party, which, in the view of an agent whose identity has been deleted, constitute Marxist advances of a political character, including video footage of anti-US messages on the Vietnam War.
Zedd stated that he requested the band’s whole FBI file in June, as well as any singles files for Dollins and his bandmates, Davy Jones, Peter Turck, and Michael Nesmith, and that when he did not receive a response from the agency, he decided to bring the case.
