US Department of Justice: Documents stashed with Trump to obstruct investigation

According to a report released by the US Department of Justice, documents found at the Florida home of former US President Donald Trump were likely stashed to thwart the investigation into him.

The procedural document released on Tuesday night, Wednesday, provides the most in-depth explanation yet of the reasons why the FBI searched the former president’s home on August 8 in order to confiscate extremely secret documents that he refused to turn over after leaving the White House, despite his repeated requests to do so.

According to the document, the US Federal Police discovered numerous pieces of evidence before carrying out the operation that showed Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home still contained secret documents.
The government has also gathered evidence that there may be official records that have been lost or stolen, and that there may have been activities to impede the investigation, she continued.

The US Department of Justice included a document with a photo of papers seized by the Federal Police and stamped Top Secret on the last page of the document.
The ministry acknowledged that it provided an explanation of the actions that led to the raid in order to correct the erroneous and partial account that was given in Trump’s remarks.

The department’s announcement followed Trump’s request last week that documents taken by federal agents at his home be reviewed by a neutral third party because he feels like he is being persecuted by the government.
The document considered that the judiciary should not do so since the (seized) records are not owned by Trump in reasons of national security and that the appointment of a third party could hinder investigators from accessing the information.

The Justice Department confirmed that some of the documents seized on August 8 bore the marking “AHCS”, which refers in US intelligence language to information provided by “human sources”, informants and other secret agents.
Investigators suspect that the Republican president has violated a US espionage law that clearly regulates the possession of classified documents. Donald Trump confirmed that the documents have been declassified.

Trump, who plans to run for president in 2024, has long attacked this procedure, viewing it as an illustration of the aggressive campaign against him and the administration supporting his replacement, Joe Biden.
