Training 40 security guards to protect a camp for the displaced in Nigeria

On Sunday, the seventh division of the Nigerian army concluded the training of 40 security guards to strengthen security in the internally displaced camp in Maidjuri, the capital of Borno.
The Commander of the General Division, Major General Shweib Woody, said that the procedure aims to bridge the security gaps in the camp.
He added: “This camp has approximately 30,000 residents; many things were happening as Boko Haram was infiltrated into the camp.


He said: “We felt that we needed a local security response like this specially created to secure the camp. ”
The commander of the 195th Battalion represented by Lieutenant -Colonel Aghib Solomon said that security guards were under intensive training on dealing with small weapons with a focus on safety and protection.
He added that they were trained in unarmed fighting and how to disarm the enemies during the attacks, and to defend themselves using a mixture of physical fighting techniques.

They are equally trained to collect intelligence information how to process information and transfer it with its own inputs using the right channels.
He added: “They were also trained on how to respond to fire accidents that are repeated every year in this camp, which houses about 30,000 people. ”
And Del explained that the initiative will strengthen the civilian civil relations and encourage the host society to participate actively in securing their region.

The leader of the region encouraged the displaced to exercise security awareness and report any suspicious movement or strange activities that violate peace to the security services.
He also added in his statements, the Borno Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sina Buba, praised the army’s efforts and the joint civil tasks force in order to restore permanent peace in the state.

Buba said that the initiative will be repeated in other camps throughout the state to ensure more protection for the internally displaced.
He said that the state government is working to close all the camps of the displaced in the state, so that people return to their societies..
