Meghan Markle: It’s not easy to forgive the royal family

Meghan Markle said her “mere presence” and her husband Prince Harry “disrupted the hierarchical dynamics” in Britain’s royal family.

The former actress made headlines in Britain on Tuesday with comments she made during an interview with the American magazine “The Cut”.

Asked if there was room for tolerance between her and the British royal family or her own family, Meghan said in the interview published on Monday: “It is not easy to forgive.” She also referred to Harry’s strained relationship with his father, Prince Charles.

She added, “I think forgiveness is really important. Not to forgive takes a lot of energy. But it takes a lot of effort to forgive. I really put in a lot of effort, especially knowing I can say anything.”

The relationship between Meghan, 41, and Harry, 37, with the British royal family has been tense since they gave up their royal duties and left the United Kingdom in early 2020, in rejection of what they described as the intolerable racist interventions and attitudes of the British media.

Since moving to California, where they are now settled with their two children, the couple have spoken about their struggles with the royal family. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, Meghan spoke out about racism within the monarchy, while Harry said Charles stopped answering his calls.
