Biden: We will never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon

US President Joe Biden stressed today, Wednesday, America’s commitment to never allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon.

In a call with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, the US President stressed the importance of ending the maritime border negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in the coming weeks.

US President Joe Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Wednesday, a White House official said, as Tehran seeks stronger guarantees from Washington to revive the 2015 nuclear deal that Israel strongly opposes.

For its part, Lapid’s office said in its statement about the two leaders’ call that they “spoke at length about negotiations on a nuclear deal and their joint commitment to prevent Iran’s progress toward acquiring a nuclear weapon.”

For its part, a special source confirmed to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath that “Lapid assured Biden of Israel’s opposition to the nuclear agreement with Iran.”

He also added that the Israeli Prime Minister assured the US President that “Israel reserves the right to defend itself without restrictions.”

This comes after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in Moscow on Wednesday that his country needs stronger guarantees from Washington to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, adding that the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency should abandon its “politically motivated investigations” into the issue. Tehran’s nuclear activities.

After 16 months of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on August 8 that the EU had made a final offer to overcome the impasse in reviving the deal.

The minister added in a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart in Moscow: “Iran is carefully reviewing the text drafted by the European Union. We need stronger guarantees from the other party to reach a permanent agreement.”

Abdollahian did not explain what “stronger guarantees” meant, but during months of talks with Washington in Vienna, Tehran demanded guarantees that no future US president would withdraw from the deal as former President Donald Trump did in 2018.
