After defeating Romanian Elena Ross on Wednesday night, American Coco Gauff advanced to the third round of the US Open.
Gauff, who is now ranked 12th in the competition, defeated her opponent in two sets without a reply, (6-2) and (7-6), to set up a meeting with her countrywoman Madison Keys in the following round.
The tournament’s 20th-ranked Keys defeated Italian Camila Giorgi in two sets, 6-4, 5-7, to advance to the third round (7-6).
Keys has a 1-0 head-to-head lead over Gauff, and her best Grand Slam performance came in 2017 when she advanced to the US Open final.
Coco Gauff enters the US Open third round now.
