United Nations: The second Russian fertilizer is dedicated to West Africa

The second shipment of Russian fertilizers will be devoted to West Africa after the United Nations managed to overcome the obstacles related to the sanctions imposed on Russia, according to a senior United Nations official who participated in the talks.
“Now we have a working model. It is a humanitarian work.

The World Food Program is charged with transporting fertilizers from ports to the countries you need,” said the Secretary -General of the United Nations Trade and Development Conference, Rebecca Greensban, at a press conference in Geneva.

Two agreements that signed in Istanbul under the auspices of the United Nations and Turkey on July 22 allow the export of Ukrainian pills besieged by Russia’s war in this country, and the export of Russian food and fertilizers despite Western sanctions imposed on Moscow.

In implementation of the two agreements, the World Food Program announced a few days ago that it will facilitate the granting of 260,000 tons of Russian fertilizers to the countries most in need in Africa, and Malawi will be the first destination.
“There are about 300,000 tons of fertilizers in European ports,” Greenspan added.
The first shipment of 20,000 tons of fertilizers is scheduled to leave on November 21 towards Malawi via Mozambique.

And “the ship is downloaded”, according to Greenspan.
“After Malawi . . . we hope that the next destination for fertilizers is western Africa, which is severely affected by the fertilizer crisis”, which has become very expensive, without revealing any details related to the date of delivery or the countries concerned.

Russian agricultural products and fertilizers are not subject to sanctions, but ship owners do not want to rent them because they cannot find insurance on them due to the risks associated with the conflict in the Black Sea.

After extensive talks, Russia and the United Nations set a framework that includes insurance and financial transactions in line with the three sanctions systems currently imposed on the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Last week, the agreement that allowed the export of Ukrainian pills for a period of 120 days was extended from November 19, calming fears of a possible global food crisis..
