Russian diplomat: The West ignores Ukraine’s use of mines against civilians

Constantine Forentsov, deputy director of deployment and reducing arms at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the West turns a blind eye to the Ukrainian armed forces’ use of anti -personnel mines and mines against civilians.

He said – at the meeting hosted by Geneva for the member states of the “inhuman” weapons agreement – that “Western countries turn a blind eye to the Ukrainian army’s use of anti -individuals and mines even against civilians, and the continued transplantation of active mines in the populated areas.

The Russian diplomat emphasized that the West prefers to look at the other direction, and this “leads to more deterioration in the international legal system in the field of reducing armaments, disarmament and prevention of proliferation. ”
He added that Moscow “will not bear this situation”, and that Russia will continue to take steps to strengthen the “inhuman” arms agreement and its protocols.

The United Nations Convention on Certain Traditional Weapons, also known as the “inhuman” weapons agreement, entered into effect on December 2, 1983. So far, 126 countries have joined it. The main purpose of this document is to prohibit or restrict the use of some traditional weapons that are very harmful to civilians and soldiers..
