Atomic Agency calls on Russia to withdraw from the Zaburigia nuclear station in Ukraine

On Thursday, the Referees Council at the International Atomic Energy Agency adopted a new decision calling on Russia to withdraw from the Zaburigia nuclear plant and stop what it is doing against nuclear sites in Ukraine, according to diplomatic sources.
Two diplomats said that the decision submitted by Canada and Finland was approved by 24 members of the council out of 35, and Russia and China voted against it.

7 countries refrained from voting: Pakistan, India, South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia, with the absence of two states.
The agency had previously adopted two decisions in the same file, the first in March and the second in September, with fears of a nuclear accident caused by the Russian bombing in Ukraine.

In the new decision, the Council of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Referees Council shows its “great concern” that Russia refused to stop its attacks on the Ukrainian nuclear facilities.
The decision calls on Russia “to give up its demands that are not basic regarding the Zaburigia station, withdraw its forces and staff immediately and stop any activity” against the stations in Ukraine.
There is a special concern about the Zaburigia station, the largest in Europe.

It has been occupied by Russian forces since the beginning of March and is located in one of the areas that Russia has included, specifically in a place not far from the seam separating line between the areas controlled by Kyiv and those occupied by the Russians. The station is subjected to regular shelling that the two parties are responsible for.
Inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency have been at the station since the beginning of September.

The Director General of the International Agency, Rafael Grossi, has been under negotiations for weeks to create a safe area around the site.
On Wednesday, on Wednesday, on the first day of the separation meeting of the Agency’s Referees Council, Grusi said that the negotiations that were considered “very complicated” aimed at reaching a very simple goal: do not shoot the station, do not shoot from the station, “calling for the move. as soon as possible = ASAP”..
