Truth Social banned from Google Play for moderating content

According to a Google spokeswoman, concerns about the lack of moderation in the material prevent the Truth Social app, owned by former President Donald Trump, from being published through the Google Play application for Android devices.

In response to True Social CEO Devin Nunes’ announcement that an Android version of the app is ready and awaiting Google approval, the companys spokesperson stated in a statement that the platform lacks the effective content oversight required to comply with the Google Play App Store’s terms of service.

On August 19, he said, “we alerted Truth Social of many violations of our standards in their existing app and reaffirmed that appropriate user-generated content moderation methods are a prerequisite of our terms of service for any app to be released on Google Play.” Google is particularly concerned about breaches of our policy barring physical threats and incitement to violence.

Trump founded the Truth Social after being barred from Twitter in January 2021 for his remarks on the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

Truth Social has been removed from Google Play for content moderation.
