The Houthis drown Yemen with adulterated drugs … and doctors abandon their profession

An economic report revealed that the Houthi militia flooded the market with adulterated medicines, which prompted many doctors to abandon the profession.
The report, “The Yemeni Economy 2021, the Economy of War and the Rich,” issued by the Center for Studies and Economic Media, reported documented testimonies of doctors, surgeons and pharmacists confirming the Houthi militia trading in fraudulent and fake medicines.

According to the report, 3 of 10 surgeons said that they stopped carrying out their work, fearing the complications that the patient may be exposed to as a result of these fraudulent drugs that the militia trades.
The report added that many of the warlords in Sana’a were able through their new companies to remove reliable source medicines, replace medicines, radiotherapy and fraudulent laboratory analysis, considering this a catastrophe that threatens the lives of millions of Yemenis.

The report pointed out that the results of the research, which were conducted with a number of surgeons and pharmacists, showed that the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies granted nascent companies licenses to import drugs from companies that are not registered with the authority, that is, not recognized.
The report confirmed that the new Houthi companies imported adulterated products instead of the customary items.

The report reported a anesthesiologist that he decided to stay at home since 2017 as a result of the involvement of the drug import company to sell unsafe varieties and non -conforms to medical standards.
He added: “They lie when they claim to match their medications to the results of the National Laboratory, because the materials of the analysis in this laboratory are already adulterated,” according to the local “News Yemen” website.

The report stated that pharmacists revealed that there are a number of drugs that contain a carcinogenic substance.
He also reviewed the most prominent Houthi names that are active in investing in the medical sector and companies affiliated with Houthi leaders, Dr. Taha Al -Mutawakkil and Saleh Al -Shaer.

The report pointed out that Taha Al -Mutawakkil, the Houthi leader, who is the Minister of Health in the internationally unrecognized Houthi government, is investing in the medical and pharmaceutical field through projects affiliated with him in Sana’a such as the Happy Yemen Hospital, Uni Max International Hospital, Uni Max to import medicines, and Uni Max company For public trade.

The report said that the leader known as the Houthi group, Saleh Misfer Al -Shaer, is managing many import companies operating in the field of medicines and medical supplies, including Al -Shaar Import Company, Al -Shaar Company for Medicines and Medical Supplies Trading, and the Shaar Foundation.
His brother, Abdullah Misfer, also takes over the management of the Abdullah Al -Shaer Foundation for Medicines and Medical Supplies, and the Abdullah Misfer Foundation for import.

According to the report, the Saleh Al -Shaer Al -Shaar group includes many companies working in import activities in general, among them also the poet Motors Import Company, and Saleh Al -Shaer Al -Shaar for Import and others..
