Paralympic International Committee suspends Russia’s membership

The International Paralympic Committee announced today, Wednesday, the suspension of the membership of the Russian Paralympic Committee in the organization “for not fulfilling membership obligations. ”
This decision was taken in the extraordinary general assembly of the International Paralympic Committee in Berlin.
The head of the Russian Paralympic Committee, Pavel Rojkov, participated in the meeting through the video, as he did not obtain an entry visa to Germany.

64 members supported the suspension of the membership of the Russian Paralympic Committee, opposed 39, and 16 refrained from voting.
The suspension of Russia’s membership is due to “the inability of the Russian Paralympic Committee to fulfill membership obligations in accordance with the regulations of the Paralympic Committee.

In the context, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chirnishenko believes that the call of the German International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, to support political neutrality in sports, is a manifestation of a dual game, and this statement is far from the truth, in reference to the word Bach Recently in front of the participants at the G20 summit in Bali.

In his speech, Bach called on the leaders of state to support political neutrality in sports, and added that athletes are countries that are in a state of conflict that should participate in the Olympics.
It should be noted that the International Olympic Committee recommended at the end of last February the international sports federations not to allow Russian and Belarus athletes to participate in the competitions against the background of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
