Brussels draft details to determine the ceiling of gas prices in Europe

The European Commission has set how a strict gas price ceiling was structured in a draft proposal distributed among member states, on Wednesday.
The document, which was seen by the Financial Times, said that such a maximum will cover all gas transactions.
The maximum level is left empty in the document, as European Union officials said that this will be decided to discuss with member states.

Executive officials in the gas and energy sector warned that interventions such as the maximum prices will postpone investment in clean energy and harm long -term confidence in the market.
The document was published several weeks after the increasing pressure from a group of European Union countries led by Belgium, Greece, Italy and Poland, which threatened to use the veto against other emergency energy measures unless a proposal was made to the maximum.

The committee said that the maximum will not be activated unless the prices have reached exceptional levels.
It will also include a “suspension mechanism” so that if the demand or the maximum level of gas imports increases, it can be withdrawn.

The document highlighted that determining the price ceiling may still be a threat to liquefied natural gas shipments that are attracted to the European Union and pushing merchants towards more deals outside the stock market that is outside the gas index in Europe.
Member countries, including Germany, the Netherlands and Hungary, oppose a maximum gas prices, for fear that consumption will increase and merchants risk sending vital supplies to other places..
