Maria Nissan, a Jordanian artist, has made it her mission to limit the use of single-use plastic garbage and educate people about its harmful effects via the use of creative paintings made from recycled materials.
Nissan, who studied painting at the University of Georgia in the United States and Florence, Italy, gathers bags, discarded plastic bottles, toothbrushes, razors, and other items.

, from them, and creates brightly coloured paintings with the faces of ladies and animals, as well as enormous colourful flowers and curtains.
Maria Nissan, an Iraqi-American artist working in Jordan, said, “My speciality is art, and I utilise art to reach audiences.” It does not require any language barriers, nor does it necessitate the use of a higher education to comprehend it.

As a result of my artistic ability, I am very passionate about raising awareness regarding Jordan’s plastic garbage consumption. I use art as a way of confrontation; you don’t need a background to recognise how large something is and how much it affects us.
Nissan has presented its work in 12 art fairs around the Kingdom, as well as exhibitions in Italy and Greece, and it is also displayed on its Instagram page, with the goal of changing habits and mentalities.

Nissan encourages customers to avoid purchasing plastic items and to use reusable bags while shopping, and it also advocates for a levy on single-use plastics.
