8 killed in landslides and floods in Sierra Leone

Authorities said that at least eight persons were killed in Freetown by landslides and flooding triggered by severe rain.
The National Disaster Management Agency reported that four men, a woman, and a seven-year-old daughter were killed in a mudslide that enveloped their Locking Town houses after heavy rain on Sunday.
It went on to say that two additional individuals perished in the Mount Oriole and Blackhall Road areas after barriers collapsed on two homes they were in.

According to agency spokesperson Mohamed Bah, more than 800 people were forced to flee their houses in the Colbert area owing to the flooding.
The authorities have ordered inhabitants to leave the Locking Town area because it is positioned at the base of a precipice that is in risk of crumbling.
Sierra Leone, a poor tropical country, is prone to flooding and landslides.

According to the World Bank, these natural disasters have displaced hundreds of thousands of people and caused significant economic damage during the last two decades.
