The United States welcomes the visit of the delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency to the Zaporizhia station in Ukraine

The examination of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant in southern Ukraine by a team of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) specialists has been welcomed by the US government.

According to John Kirby, a spokesman for the US National Security Council, “We fully support the expert mission that the IAEA Director General has sent to the nuclear power plant and we are pleased that the team is on its way to ensure the safety, security, and safeguards of systems there, as well as to assess staff working conditions.”

It is interesting that Russia and Ukraine recently traded charges of bombing the largest nuclear power station in Europe, the Zaporozhye plant, which sparked worries over potential damage to the facility and the prospect of a nuclear disaster akin to the 1986 Chernobyl reactor accident.

The delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency is invited to visit the Zaporizhia facility in Ukraine, and the United States appreciates their presence.
