Mr. Al -Qusayr, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, met Dr. Kerry Fuller, the American Special Envoy for Global Food Security, as part of his intense activity on the sidelines of the climate summit “COP 27”.
During his meeting with the American Special Envoy, the Minister of Agriculture discussed aspects of joint cooperation, as well as presenting Egypt’s vision regarding the issue of global food security, its influence on climate issues and the presentation of the Egyptian initiative launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and the adaptation of the climate conference currently held in Sharm El -Sheikh.
Al -Qusayr expressed his happiness in the presence and support of the American Minister of Agriculture on the day of agriculture and adaptation and the large presence of the American side of the climate conference at the political and technical level, which expresses historical relations between Egypt and the United States of America.
He pointed out that the Fast Agriculture Initiative is a complementary initiative for international initiatives launched in all previous conferences and aims to mobilize financing and increase investment in climate businesses for developing countries that suffer from the problems of many climate changes despite their small contribution to this matter.
He explained that there are many procedures carried out by the Egyptian state, whether it is at the level of horizontal or vertical expansion to adapt to climate changes, some of which are related to irrigation projects, including what is related to increasing the agricultural area, following new policies and adopting innovative systems in order to increase agricultural production and derive plant varieties capable of confronting Climate changes, agricultural land reclamation projects, the use of early warning devices, and the state establishing huge projects such as the 100,000 acres project towards and other projects that aim to achieve food security for the Egyptian people.
He pointed out that the challenges faced by the agricultural sector in Egypt, including the fragmentation of agricultural holdings, the limited water and terrestrial resources, climate changes and annual population increase.
For his part, “Fuller” expressed his happiness to participate in the 27th climate conference and the success of Egypt in organizing this huge conference in Sharm El Sheikh, noting the support of the Egyptian initiative Fast, which can have an important role in mobilizing the necessary funding for investments in climate business
The American Special Envoy for Global Food Security confirmed that he is here to discuss how to cooperate with the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture to support the agricultural sector and its workers, especially small farmers.
