Today, the United Nations requests $160 million to help Pakistan cope with floods

The United Nations and the Pakistani government formally launched an appeal for $160 million in contributions on Tuesday to support humanitarian help to Pakistan, which was struck by catastrophic floods, according to a spokeswoman for the UN Secretary-General.
Tens of millions of Pakistanis are dealing with the heaviest monsoon rains in three decades, which have killed at least 1,136 people and devastated numerous houses and agricultural land.

During a news conference, Stphane Dujarric, a spokeswoman for Antonio Guterres, underlined his alarm, saying, “The situation will worsen if the rain continues.”
In this context, he stated, “We aim to issue an urgent appeal in collaboration with the government in order to gather 160 million dollars for emergency assistance efforts,” adding that the appeal will be officially launched on Tuesday.

He stated that the UN has already generated $7 million by transferring funding from other programmes, specifically to pay the most pressing needs, such as food, water, medical equipment, and shelter. The United Nations Emergency Response Fund has provided an additional three million dollars.

The United Nations has requested $160 million to assist Pakistan in dealing with floods.
