The Health Care Authority announced the success of a surgery for the first time, to treat osteoarthritis and lower jaw joint muscles, using optical endoscope technology, at Al Salam Port Said Hospital under the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance.
The authority explained in its statement that the beneficiary was suffering from osteoarthritis in the joints and muscles of the lower jaw joint, as a result of a fall accident in childhood that hindered her from opening the mouth.
She had a fall accident as a child, which is what caused the joint stiffness following the fall’s bleeding, thus she opted to have surgery.
The statement continued, “As an alternative to the laryngeal incision that was previously used, the beneficiary’s laryngeal tube was placed using the optical endoscope technique, where the stiffness of the joints was eliminated, the muscles were streamlined, and the mouth was restored, until the patient’s mouth opening reached the normal rate of 45 mm, while adjusting the regular movement of the jaw.” After opening and closing their mouth, the patient was OK and sent home.
The statement continued, “The surgery was carried out by a renowned medical team in the Maxillofacial Department at Al-Salam Port Said Hospital, with the participation of Dr. Mohamed Fawzy, Consultant of Anesthesia, Dr. Muhammad Muhammad Rashad, Deputy Oral and Maxillofacial Hospital, and Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Kamel, Consultant of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.”
