The United Nations mission calls on the demonstrators in Iraq to leave the international zone and allow the government to continue its work

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), according to the organization’s official spokesman, has asked for all protesters to leave the international zone in Baghdad immediately. He described today’s events in Iraq as a hazardous escalation.

The Special Envoy Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert is in Baghdad and is continuing her work and contacts, according to Stephane Dujarric, the official spokesman during the daily press briefing from the permanent headquarters in New York.
He cited the UNAMI mission’s message, which asked the demonstrators to leave all government buildings so that the government could continue its duties of governing the country in the interests of the Iraqi people.

The statement went on to say that the current course of events is extremely dangerous and that state institutions must operate without interference to serve the Iraqi people under any conditions and at any time.
The need of respecting the constitutional order was emphasised by the mission.
The mission emphasised earlier this month that although the confirmation of constitutional compliance and respect for state institutions is equally crucial, so is the right to peaceful protest.

The United Nations mission in Iraq requests that the protesters vacate the international area so that the government may continue its job.
