The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States celebrates the International Day for Diabetes

Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary -General, Head of the Social Affairs Sector, stated that November 14 of each year celebrates the International Day of Diabetes, in order to educate the community about diabetes and its risks, and work to ensure that people with all the treatment and comprehensive care services obtained At a low and quality cost, and take advantage of the efforts and initiatives undertaken by member states and civil society organizations in order to raise awareness in this regard.

On this occasion, Ambassador Haifa indicated that the Arab leaders confirmed in the third session of the Arab Development Summit: and the economic and social, which was held in Riyadh in January 2013, to pay more attention to addressing non -infectious diseases, including diabetes because of its great challenge to the well -being of society The efforts of development in our Arab countries, and they also called for the speedy status of work plans and the support of policies, strategies and programs taken on these diseases.

In this context, the Ambassador affirmed that the League of Arab States is keen, through its health mechanisms, especially the Arab Health Ministers Council, to achieve health security for the Arab citizen, by working to implement the sustainable development goals 2030, especially the third goal concerned with health, which is a guarantee that everyone has the enjoyment of patterns A healthy living and luxury of all ages, which includes its goals of reducing the early deaths caused by noncommunicable diseases by a third by 2030.

While the ambassador noted that he suffers from diabetes more than 460 million people worldwide, and that this chronic disease occurs when the pancreas is unable to produce insulin in sufficient amount or when the body is unable to use the effective use of insulin that it produces, and it is one of the main causes of blindness, kidney failure and seizures Cardiac, strokes and lower extremities.

She also emphasized that a healthy diet must be done with reduced sugary and fat, moderate physical activity regularly and weight control, as well as avoiding tobacco use.

In this context, she indicated that, according to a Christianity conducted by the World Health Organization, the services of diabetics in 62% of its member states have been partially or completely disrupted during the Kofid-19 pandem She referred to the Global Charter on Diabetes announced by the World Health Organization in 2021, a global initiative aimed at introducing sustainable ways to prevent diabetes and provide care for those with it, focusing in particular on the support of low and medium -income countries.
