The Joint Operations Command urged the protesters to leave the Green Zone right away, emphasising in a statement that it had upheld the greatest standards of moderation and cooperation in order to avoid collisions or bloodshed among Iraqis.

The statement continued, “The security forces will carry out their responsibilities to protect security and stability, noting that dealing with peaceful demonstrations is done through the constitution and laws and that the security forces are accountable for protecting government institutions, international missions, public and private properties, and that they are responsible for protecting these things through the constitution and laws.

A signal for calm
President of the Republic Barham Salih, Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, Speaker of the House Muhammad Al-Halbousi, and Chief Justice Faiq Zaidan issued an appeal for calm, a halt to political escalation, and the adoption of dialogue to resolve the current disputes on Monday.

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, maintaining security, stability, and the democratic and constitutional path in Iraq is everyone’s responsibility, as well as the responsibility of state institutions and national political forces, and that the best way to resolve all current disagreements in order to maintain the country’s capabilities is through constructive dialogue.

The meeting reiterated its support for the Prime Minister’s request to hold a new round of national dialogue this week to discuss and debate initiatives and ideas related to ending the current crisis, and it once more extended an invitation to the brothers in the Sadrist movement to participate in the dialogue session.

The importance of reform proposals at all levels, the advancement of the work of various institutions, the fight against corruption, and the necessity for the national dialogue to proceed in order to discuss everything that would help our honourable people’s aspirations become a reality were all stressed during the meeting.

In order to improve the environment for relations between the various political forces based on the paramount national interest, the meeting called on all national forces to take responsibility for the current state of affairs in the nation, including adopting a calm attitude at all levels and stopping the political escalation.

And he requested an urgent end to the current media escalation, which has a harmful impact on the interests of the nation and causes worry among the populace, on the basis of the needs of reform at its many levels.
