After its initial publication at the Cairo International Book Fair in 2015, author Ahmed Khaled Tawfiq published the novel’s 11th edition. The book had previously won the Best Novel prize at the Sharjah Book Fair in 2016.
The protagonist of the novel, which was released in its first edition in 2015, is Mahmoud Al-Samanoudi, an ordinary young man who is not distinguished by anything. He had a miserable childhood that was comparable to the greatest level of human misery, a grim relationship with no prospects, and he turned to reading as an escape from reality. As he gets bigger, reality forces him to finish his education and graduate from the Faculty of Law. Reality also forces him to settle down and he marries Samira, one of his coworkers.
