The role of Filmmaking in climate change

In his fifth decade of filmmaking, which spans all seven continents, Larry Engel—an Emmy Award–winning producer, writer, director, and cinematographer—has worked on a variety of projects.
For cable networks and broadcasters both domestically and abroad, he has worked on more than 250 projects.
Currently, Engel holds the positions of filmmaker-in-residence with the Investigative Reporting Workshop, associate director of the Center for Environmental Filmmaking, and adjunct professor at American University’s School of Communication.

According to Larry, the film medium in general—including documentaries, PSAs, commercials, and even social media—is all-encompassing in terms of raising awareness about the climate change crisis and is thought to be an effective means of being able to communicate the crisis.
