Lebanese Health: 26,267 people were vaccinated against cholera on the first day of the campaign

The first stage of the national vaccination programme against the cholera epidemic, which broke out in Lebanon on October 5, 2017, and affected more than 3,150 people between confirmed and suspected injuries and resulted in the deaths of 18 cases, was launched today, on Saturday, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health stated in a statement that 139 field teams for partners in the Lebanese Red Cross and a number of NGOs were used to focus the vaccines that were administered orally today in the targeted areas in 4 governorates, 6 regions, 19 towns, and the Nahr al-Bared camp for the displaced Syrians.

Firas Al-Abyad, the Lebanese Minister of Health, expressed his satisfaction with the demand to receive the vaccine in a way that promotes community protection and immunity, praising the efforts of field fortification teams, and emphasising that what was accomplished on this first day is what is driving the national campaign to fortify more than 70% of the population in the most vulnerable areas forward.

With the help of the World Health Organization, Lebanon received 600,000 doses of the cholera vaccine on Thursday.

Lebanese Health: On the first day of the campaign, 26,267 people received cholera vaccinations.
