As authorities continue looking for suspects in a shooting near a local junior college, the mayor of the Montreal suburb of Laval, Quebec, is requesting more funding from the provincial government to combat gun crime.
In order to discuss the Friday afternoon incident at a park close to College Montmorency that left four people with non-life-threatening injuries, Stephane Boyer held a press conference with the local police chief, Pierre Brochet, early on Saturday morning.

Boyer claims that after the shooting, he spoke with Francois Bonnardel, Quebec’s minister of public security, and requested additional funding to help fight gun violence, similar to the millions of dollars set aside for Montreal over the summer.
Brochet says there were four victims of Friday’s incident, three of whom were shot and one who was treated for a possible glass-related wound.

The lockdown at a junior college in Quebec ends with the arrest of a 19-year-old man.
He claims that one victim, who was between the ages of 19 and 20, may have been a member of the Flamehead Boys, a local street gang, but he gave no other information.
Brochet says authorities are still searching for suspects related to the shooting that placed the college in lockdown for several hours..
