GO Transit bus service to resume after tentative contract ended workers’ strike

ATLANTA — After reaching a settlement with their employer, the union representing the striking employees, GO Transit bus service is expected to resume today.
Regional bus service was suspended throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe on Monday as a result of more than 2,200 GO bus drivers, station attendants, maintenance workers, and other employees walking out of their jobs.

Late on Thursday, the administration of GO Transit, Metrolinx, and the workers’ union, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1587, announced that a tentative agreement had been reached.
Members are expected to vote to ratify the contract in the coming days. The union claimed that the agreement allays its concerns about safety and contracting-out issues.
Metrolinx said it was pleased the two sides had reached the tentative three-year agreement.

The cancellation of GO bus service had caused headaches for thousands of commuters. Stations remained open, and GO trains kept running.

After a tentative agreement ended the workers’ strike, GO Transit bus service will resume.
