Penticton, B.C. residents mark Remembrance Day

Residents of Penticton, in the South Okanagan, observed Remembrance Day with not one, but two ceremonies held throughout the city. Veterans and community members gathered to pay tribute to the past and present members of the armed forces.
One of the ceremonies was at Penticton Trade and Convention Centre and the other was at Veterans Memorial Park.
“I’ve always thought that a Cenotaph should host the Remembrance Day ceremony.

The war didn’t end because it became cold, despite the fact that I know many people prefer to stay indoors, according to Penticton Legion member Bob Sudbury.
Veterans, first responders, and community members all gathered for the ceremony to pay tribute to those who risked their lives.
Honor those who served and died, please. thus enabling the freedoms we enjoy today. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not recognise the freedoms they enjoy today, according to veteran Doug Pichette.

It touched Sudbury to see so many kids at the Remembrance Day service. He is a global war historian who wants to educate the next generation.
“I have actually taught classes about it at Holy Cross School and Princess Margaret School. From D-Day until the war’s end, I have all of my father’s maps. He marked his location and laminated each one. I got photo albums from the war of newspapers and I explain things,” Sudbury said.

After reducing ceremonies over the previous few years, Penticton residents were happy to observe Remembrance Day with their neighbors.
“Everyone can visit locations like this as The Legion returns to normal.” The place was packed because we weren’t at the Convention Centre two years ago when we had this, but we weren’t allowed to advertise because we couldn’t have more than 100 people there, said Sudbury.

The resilience of Canadians who turn out is demonstrated.
