Winnipeggers shovelling out after Colorado Low dumps 1st big snowfall

The Colorado Low that brought them their first storm of the season has left Manitobans in the southern regions of the province cleaning up the debris.
It was excellent news that arrived at a perfect time for kids who had the day off from school in the provincial capital.
When the boys woke up, they noticed the first snowfall and suggested going tobogganing, so we said, “OK, let’s go,” In addition to her husband and sons, ages 7 and 9, Heather Horrocks spoke to Global News on Friday.

This morning, after seeing a few Remembrance Day services, we made the decision to leave.
From the top of Wellington Park hill, a favourite hangout for families with children who like the winter like Chelsea Bamendine’s, laughter and screams could be heard.
Bamendine pointed to the youngster of one of her neighbours and said, “She loves it. She laughed as she said, “I’m sad.”
Strong winds and snowfall caused several highways to close overnight, making some roads dangerous.

Overnight, CAA Manitoba experienced a little increase in service requests, a spokeswoman told Global News.
“As of noon, we had conducted 81 rescues and had 36 current live calls. About 50 rescues per day is considered normal, they said.
Although snowfall amounts varied across the city, the storm dumped about 14 cm over Winnipeg, Scott Kehler with Weatherlogics told Global News.

“If you go farther south from the city to places like southeastern Manitoba, the amounts were as high as 25 cm in some areas, but if you went north of the city (in) a place like Gimli, got almost nothing,” Kehler, the company’s president and chief scientist, said.
Theophile Tuyisingize was shovelling snow outside his Fort Rouge home with his nieces when Winnipeg received its first snowfall, which was more than enough to catch him off guard.

When I woke up and looked outside this morning, it was a surprise because I wasn’t prepared to clear the snow. I had to go outside and clean it off because the weather was completely white, Tuyisingize said.
His neighbour Myriam Bara was shovelling snow in front of her house across the street.
“I have a sixteen-month-old daughter, and she was really excited this morning, so I’ll clear everything out so we can come out and play this afternoon,” Bara said.

The city’s website stated as of late Friday afternoon that the majority of major routes had been plowed, with non-regional bus routes, collector streets, and residential neighbourhoods to follow. However, residential areas like theirs hadn’t yet been cleared.
Kehler claims that the snow is probably going to stay because of the predicted below-freezing temperatures.
“If we do get another storm, then we won’t really see that grass again for quite a while. ”.

Winnipeg residents are raking up the first significant snowfall from the Colorado Low.
