Guelph police launch new community policing webpage

The Guelph Police Service is hoping that locals will use a new website to report crimes and find safety advice for their neighborhood.
They have launched a website for community policing where people can also learn about available resources for support.
“We invite our citizens to visit our new Community Policing webpage to learn more about our members and the services we provide,” said police chief Gord Cobey in a statement.

We are dedicated to offering the best service while attempting to protect the health and safety of our community by collaborating with it.
Visitors to the webpage can access things like CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) where they can have an officer come to their home or business and learn ways to make their property less inviting for criminals.

Another is the Community Police Academy program, where a police officer can address issues like fraud and drug use in front of a community group.
The website has been up for a few weeks, and according to sergeant Chris Probst, it is already being used.
Probst stated, “We’ve already had two CPTED assessment requests and two organisations complete the police academy. “It is encouraging to hear that it is beginning to gain traction.

We just need to keep pushing it and hope that the trend continues to rise.
The website is set up to make it simple for locals to report crimes and have an officer show up at their door to look into them.
Probst stated, “We wanted to find a means to keep up with the community. It can feel awful and be quite intrusive to report a crime.
The community policing page, according to Probst, won’t necessarily free up resources so that police can concentrate on more serious crimes.

It is a long-term strategy, according to which we won’t require as many resources if we can stop crimes by building positive relationships between the police and the community.
On the Crime Prevention and Community Safety tab of the Guelph Police Service website, there is a link that takes you to the Community Policing page.
