Simcoe County and Partners Ready Warming Center Ahead of Winter

With winter on its way and the temperature starting to drop, Simcoe County and ITS Municipalities Have Been Working To Reure People Without A Home Have a Warm Place to Stay.
To help connect those experiencing homelessness with warm, secure, and connected services, warming shelters are being set up with the assistance of local shelters and community partners.

Warming Center Will Be Available in Barrie, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Collingwood, and Orillia This Winter on Nights When the Overnight Temperature is predicted to fall bellow -15c for at least two hours.
The County also collaborates with the shelters in Alliston and Midland to guarantee access to winter heating.

“We’re pleased to announce that an entire year of work and planning by Our Staff and partners has paid off, and warming center locations Will Be Open Across The Region This Winter,” Said Warden George Cornell.
Since it wasn’t part of the County’s mandate prior to 2022, the County did not specify funding for warming centre locations with our communities.

We are content to assist with this crucial service in 2022 and for 2023, though, by providing one-time funding designated for pandemics and expanding our support.
The County Said Additional Options for People Opting Not To Access Shelter Program Will Include Homeless Shelter Providers, Overnight Warming Services, Daytime Drop-in Services, and Overnight Respite Beds at Many Locations.
People can access the drop-in and overnight respite warning programme without having to enrol in the shelter program.

Staff Say there is Currently Space in the Shelter System, But if the capacity is rearling the new temporary Shelter is up and running, The County Will increased the Motel Voucher Program to Reure that Anyone Who Needs A Bed Has One.
