GO Transit bus service suspended for second day, 2,200 workers on strike

Regional bus service throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe has been suspended for a second day in a row due to a strike by GO Transit employees.
On Monday, about 2,200 employees—including bus drivers and station employees—walked off the job.
The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1587 and Metrolinx, which operates GO Transit, have both expressed willingness to return to the negotiating table.

While Metrolinx claims it did not have enough time to address new concerns the union raised during hurried weekend negotiations, the union claims Metrolinx failed to table a deal Sunday that addressed key points regarding job protections.
According to Metrolinx, it is running every GO Train that is available to assist with rerouting passengers.
Negotiations started in April and the union has been working without a contract since June.

The union claimed that this was the first strike by GO Transit bus drivers.

For a second day, GO Transit bus service is suspended, and 2,200 workers are on strike.
