‘Freedom Convoy’ protesters set to testify at Emergencies Act inquiry

A local politician from Alberta who is charged with taking part in “Freedom Convoy” demonstrations at the Coutts, Alberta, border blockade is scheduled to give testimony on Tuesday at the open hearing into how the federal government uses the Emergencies Act.
Fort MacLeod, Alberta, councillor Marco Van Huigenbos was charged with mischief for his involvement in organising the protests earlier this year.
Ontario Provincial Police officer Dana Earley and Paul Leschied, who took part in the protests in Windsor, Ont.

are also expected to give testimony.
On February 14, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canadian history, claiming that it was necessary to end blockades in Ottawa and at border crossings due to its temporary and extraordinary powers.
The Liberal government’s decision to use the act is currently being investigated by the Public Order Emergency Commission.
Hearings for the public inquiry, which the Emergencies Act mandates, are taking place in Ottawa through November 25.
