South Korea to strengthen warnings on cigarette packages

The Ministry of Health and Welfare reports that starting in late December, South Korean cigarette manufacturers will be required to strengthen the health warnings on cigarette packaging in accordance with a new government regulation.
The ministry plans to publish new guidelines for including health warnings on cigarette packaging on Monday as a follow-up to a review of government tobacco industry laws finished in June.
The new rule will take effect on December 23.

The recommendations oblige cigarette producers to include more visual warnings to their cigarettes. For instance, a projected image of a newborn infant sipping from a bottle packed with cigarette butts appears in a second-hand smoking warning.
According to officials, more than half of e-cigarette packets should have health warnings. .

South Korea will upgrade the language on cigarette packaging warnings.
