After a media report indicated that there had been foreign meddling in the Canadian election, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada issued a warning on Monday, claiming that China is engaging in “hostile games” with the democracy and institutions of his country.

Trudeau’s remarks came days after the authorities launched an investigation into “illegal Chinese police stations” in the Toronto area to track Chinese dissidents and opponents, and after a report by the local “Global News” station on the funding of Beijing’s “secret network” of candidates in recent elections.

Trudeau told reporters, “We have taken significant steps to strengthen the integrity of our electoral operations and systems, and we will continue to make efforts to resist election interference and foreign meddling in our democracies and institutions.
“Unfortunately, we see nations and global players from all over the world, including China, continue to play acrimonious games with our institutions and democracies.

According to Global News, which cited anonymous sources, the Canadian security agencies have alerted the Trudeau administration that China is attempting to undermine or influence the country’s democratic process.
According to the station’s report, Beijing used money to support at least 11 candidates in the elections, in addition to Chinese agents who served as activists in their election campaigns, through an Ontario deputy and others.

He continued by saying that Beijing wanted to place clients in the offices of lawmakers in order to sway policy.
The Canadian Royal Police stated last month that it was taking into account reports of “criminal conduct related to the so-called police stations.”
The “Septegard Devanders” organisation established in Spain claims that the Chinese police have utilised these police stations to operate in foreign countries and urge Chinese people to return to China to face criminal prosecution.

China refuted claims that it used these facilities for illicit activity, claiming that they merely offered Chinese nationals living overseas services like driving licence renewals.
At a routine press briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhao Legian stated that China “had no interest” in meddling in Canadian internal matters.
He said, “Relations between countries can only be based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

“The Chinese-Canadian relations are not an exception,” he continued. Canada should stop making statements that harm the Chinese Canadian relations. “.
