The “Masdar” and “Hassan Allam for the Utilities” corporations signed two memoranda of understanding with organisations supported by the Egyptian government to work together on the construction of 4 GB green hydrogen production stations in the Suez Canal economic zone and on the Mediterranean coast.

A green hydrogen production facility will be constructed as part of the project’s first phase, and it will be operational by 2026. The facility will also produce 100,000 tonnes of electronic methanol annually for refuelling in the Suez Canal, and its production capacity can be increased to 4 GB by 2030 to produce 2. 3 million tonnes of green ammonia for export in addition to producing green hydrogen to support local industry.

The production of green hydrogen is primarily influenced by Egypt’s abundant solar and wind energy resources, which can support renewable energy projects at a reasonable cost. Additionally, Egypt is situated near a number of markets where the demand for green hydrogen is anticipated to rise, opening up opportunities for strong export.
