Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman sign a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the fields of energy

On the fringes of the twenty-seventh conference meetings of the states parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), which is currently taking place in Sharm el-Sheikh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy in an effort to achieve their shared aspirations in these areas.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the memo was signed by Eng and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi Minister of Energy.

Salem bin Nasser Al-Awfi, the Sultanate of Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, seeks to establish a framework for bilateral energy cooperation. This includes enhancing coordination in the areas of renewable energy and electricity, energy efficiency, hydrogen, utilising the circular economy approach to carbon and its strategies to lessen the effects of climate change, oil, gas, and petrochemicals, as well as creating standards to support the use of sustainably produced energy.

Encouragement of digital transformation, innovation, collaboration between specialised businesses, and the creation of specific partnerships with regard to localization of materials, products, services, supply chains, and their technologies are also included in the memorandum.
