NZ expat arrested after firearms, grenades found in Thailand home

After 26 weapons and almost a dozen grenades were found in his residence in Thailand, a New Zealand expat was detained.
According to The Phuket Express, Gareth Alan Davies was detained at a residence on Soi Bae Hua in Phuket’s Kathu district yesterday morning (last night NZT).
Following his arrest, according to local police, 19 handguns, seven rifles, 11 grenades, and ammo were taken from the house.
Among the rifles confiscated from the house were an AK and an M16.

The 63-year-old had lived in the country for more than 20 years, and had not raised the attention of authorities prior to his arrest, local immigration officials said.
Davies is accused of illegally possessing the firearms and ammo.
