The Iraqi President: We suffer in our country from the problems of desertification

Today, Monday, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid acknowledged that his nation had issues with desertification.
Rashid said – in his speech to the COP27 summit in Sharm El -Sheikh regarding facing the challenges caused by climate change, this evening – that “the Ahwaz region was an important factor in preserving the environmental balance map in our country,” quoting “Sky News Arabia”.

The most significant issue in Iraq, he continued, is the water issue. Mesopotamia, he said, “suffers from water scarcity, and the climate conference is an important sign.”
The Iraqi President continued – during his speech to the climate summit – that “the crises in Iraq have multiplied due to the weakness of the rains,” noting that “the increasing drought in Iraq is a serious challenge,” quoting the Iraqi News Agency, “conscious”.

He also expressed his hope, to cooperate “in the water file with neighboring countries”, explaining that “the water crisis in Iraq forced the authorities to reduce agricultural areas,” noting that “the problem of water scarcity exacerbates the phenomenon of desertification in Iraq,” warning at the same time, warning. From that, 40% of Iraq’s land is in risk of becoming desert.


He added, “Iraq is one of the most affected countries of global warming,” adding that “the Iraqi government is serious in dealing with water policy,” stressing “the importance of exchanging experiences between countries on the climate file,” pledging that “Iraq will work to expand green spaces” ..
