For the first time in the history of the European League competition “Europalig,” the Spanish team Barcelona plays its English equivalent, Manchester United, head-to-head.

In the round of 16, where the clubs that finished third in the Champions League groups meet with those who finished second in the European League groups, there were some fierce clashes as a result of the draw for the European League accessory 2022–2023, most notably the Barcelona summit against Manchester United.
Barcelona and Manchester United had previously faced off 13 times in different championships, but this is their first in-person encounter in the European League.
In these matches, the Catalan team was successful in winning six of them, compared to the Red Devils’ three victories, and four of their games ended in draws.
During these matches, Barcelona players managed to score 24 goals, while the Manchester United team put 15 goals into the Catalan team’s net.
One of the most famous matches that pitted Barcelona against Manchester United was the Champions League final in the seasons of 2008–2009 and 2010–2011, which the Blaugrana won both times with two goals scored without being charged and three goals for a goal, respectively.
For his part, Barcelona’s Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez discussed playing Manchester United in the round of 16 of the European League.
“Since Manchester United has a lengthy history and has advanced significantly since Tin Hag took control, the lottery placed us against the strongest opponent possible in this situation. Senior players dominate the team, and each player is very skilled.”
It is once again the most difficult opponent, but we are looking forward to the game, said Xavi. They are a legendary squad that has improved greatly under Tin Hag, and they have outstanding players. We will face the most difficult team in the lottery, again luck not our party.
“We will examine this matchup when its time comes, in order to move forward and win this championship, which we have not yet accomplished,” Xavi stated in remarks to the press conference before of tomorrow’s Spanish league match against Osasuna.
