Union representing some N.S. school support workers reaches tentative deal

The Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia’s 600 school support workers were on strike, but a tentative agreement was struck on Sunday.
In a statement late on Sunday, the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union said that the agreement was achieved following two days of negotiations with the aid of a conciliator.
The support workers’ bargaining committee has recommended adoption of the tentative agreement, and on Tuesday, Local 73 of the union will vote to ratify it.

In the meantime, the South Shore Regional Centre for Education expects 150 striking school support staff to resume negotiations as soon as today.
On October 24, employees in the Annapolis Valley went on strike, and on October 25, employees in the South Shore did the same.
The striking workers include educational assistants, early childhood educators, student support workers and outreach workers.
The Canadian Press initially released this article on November 7, 2022.

A tentative agreement is reached with the union representing certain NS school support personnel.
