North Korea pledges an escalation against the United States and South Korea

In response to joint military drills between the United States and its neighbour, South Korea, North Korea has pledged to respond forcefully.
According to Reuters, North Korea reacted to these exercises by simulating the bombing of its air bases and aircraft. It saw them as dangerous and provocative exercises.

While South Korea and the US were engaged in six days of air exercises up until last Saturday, North Korea last week tested a variety of missiles, including an ICBM and hundreds of artillery munitions, at sea.
While the North Korean Army General Staff said in a statement reported by the official that the “vigilant storm” training was “an explicit provocation aimed at escalating tension on” and “dangerous war exercises of a very aggressive nature” towards Pyongyang.

Notably, the European Union denounced Pyongyang’s “illegal” launches and urged “a coordinated and robust response” from all nations, including the use of sanctions.
Josep Borrell, a representative of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs, said in a statement that Pyongyang’s “dangerous escalation” included a “unprecedented” number of missile launches, including both intercontinental and short-range ballistic missiles.

North Korea promises to intensify its attacks on the US and South Korea.
