The newspaper quoted US officials and allies as saying that Sullivan, the chief assistant assistant to President Joe Biden for National Security Affairs, had secret talks in recent months with his counterpart, Nikolai Patroshev, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council and Yuri Ushakov, the unveiled president of the Russian President and Yuri Uri Oshkov.
Regarding the report, the White House declined to comment.
The alleged chats occurred at a time when Moscow accused the West of escalating the nuclear debate; the most recent example of this was when Kyiv was constantly accused of plotting to use a glowing “dirty bomb” without any supporting documentation.
Sullivan left for Kyiv on Friday and promised to stand by Ukraine with Washington “solid and powerful.”
