The fire, which started on Sunday morning in the Al-Waziriya neighbourhood of central Baghdad, has been burning for hours now despite efforts by the local authorities to put it out.
Part of the building collapsed as a result of the fire, sending the neighbourhood into a panic.
The fire has reportedly already injured 20 people, according to Iraqi media.
On Sunday evening, the Civil Defense Directorate announced that its director and a number of firefighters were injured by the collapse of a commercial building in the Al -Waziriya area in Baghdad.
The commercial structure “saw a fire in which this morning in the Al-Waziriya area of Baghdad fell when civil defence troops were extinguished,” according to the directorate.

“This resulted in the wounding of the Civil Defense Director, who was present at the scene of the disaster, as well as a number of firefighters,” she continued. ”
