After the “flea” kept quiet after the seasoned defender announced his retirement, it appears that prior rumours regarding the tight relationship between Lionel Messi and his former teammate Gerard Pique were accurate.
Messi adjacent to Pique in Barcelona between 2008 and 2021, and he was together with several titles with the Catalan club before the Argentine was forced to leave to Paris Saint -Germain due to the suffering of “Barca” from financial problems.
After playing in the Spanish League match between Barcelona and Almeria on Saturday, Pique officially ended his football career. Many of the veteran defender’s former teammates came out to say goodbye, but the “flea” didn’t say anything until now, including Cesc Fabregas and Messi’s close friend Neymar da Silva.
And numerous Spanish publications, most notably “Mundo Deportivo” and “Sport,” have reported in recent months that Messi is furious with Pique and has accused him of treason because the Spanish defender refused to lower his pay in order to extend the Argentine’s contract with Barcelona through the summer of 2021 before he was forced to leave for Paris Saint-Germain.
Pique agreed to forego a portion of his pay after Messi went to the “Princes Park,” which infuriated “flea,” according to Spanish publications.
Following Pique’s absence from Messi’s meal with Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba and manager Xavi Hernandez during the Argentine star’s recent visit to Barcelona, there have been questions raised about the friction in the two parties’ relationship.
