UN official: Joint cooperation is the solution to reduce emissions

Song Li, the executive director of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, emphasised that reducing emissions and ensuring a fair transition to an emission-free world require international cooperation, noting that financial flows are still insufficient in comparison to the stated objectives.

Song Li stated during the opening procedural session of the Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh on Sunday that “We have knowledge and know-how to address climate change, and these options are available on the basis of financing and adaptation.” Song Li noted that the prerequisite for success in adaptation is the ambitious adaptation to maintain warming within the boundaries, that is, a half and a half degrees, through the great analogue system.

Song Li continued, “Since the Paris Agreement has put many countries themselves on the application of laws, climate policies, and regulations,” arguing that all of this is insufficient and that the level of ambition in this area needs to be raised in order to protect the planet from the effects of climate change.
He issued a warning that because the time and options will not be accessible in the future, future generations will not have the chance to save the world.

He emphasised that scientists are prepared to assist governments at every stage of the march to stop global warming and accomplish sustainable development goals, and that people and other species living on the earth are not less valuable than that.
